The Western Innovation (WINN) Initiative is a five-year federal initiative that offers repayable contributions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with operations in Western Canada, in order to help move their new and innovative technologies from the later stages of research and development to the marketplace.

Created by our Conservative Government in 2013, WINN is a program that offers repayable contributions to western Canadian businesses with less than 500 employees, to commercialize and bring to market innovative technology-based products, processes or services.  To date, WINN has invested over $97 million in 85 projects.

Under the Liberal Government, the program is prioritizing clean technology, clean resources, digital technology, advanced manufacturing, value added agriculture, and health biological sciences.
Repayable contributions cover up to 50% of total eligible costs for each project, to a maximum of $3.5 million per project.
