Trudeau’s values test is unacceptable for groups seeking summer job grants

Please watch my video speaking in the House about the Canada Summer Jobs Program values test.

Conservatives believe in Canadians’ fundamental freedoms: the right to freedom of conscience, of belief, and the right to freedom of expression. No one has the right to prevent others from advocating or expressing their beliefs.
That’s why Conservatives oppose the values test Justin Trudeau has imposed on applicants for Canada Summer Jobs grants. Under Justin Trudeau’s values test, if you don’t sign an attestation agreeing with the ideological positions of the Liberal Party, your organization will no longer be eligible to receive funding for a summer student.
From church groups in the Maritimes, to the Muslim groups and organizations in Toronto, to services for the homeless in Alberta, to summer camps in Vancouver Island, we have heard loud and clear how this values test will hurt community organizations and those seeking their help.
Many organizations have already made the tough decision and refuse to apply for Canada Summer Jobs program this year.
This has no place in a tolerant, multicultural society like Canada. Justin Trudeau talks a lot about respecting diversity, but his actions tell a very different story.
Canada’s Conservatives believe that all Canadians should be treated equally by their government, regardless of their faith or conscience. You can always count on us to defend the right of all Canadians of faith to hold and express their deeply-held beliefs and values.
