Christians across Canada and around the world are marking Ash Wednesday. Today is the first day of Lent, beginning a season of reflection on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, as well as repentance and renewal to rededicate ourselves to God and one another.
We are so fortunate to live here in Canada, a country that defends the freedom of all its citizens to practice their religion in safety and peace. May this humbling occasion be an important reminder to pray for Christians in those parts of the world where they are persecuted for their faith.
Canada’s Conservatives will always stand up for freedom of religion at home and abroad, and we will continue to be a strong voice for persecuted Christians around the world as we give thanks for this sacred and solemn season that guides us toward the Easter celebration.
